How to decorate a vase with your own hands - decor ideas
Every housewife wants to have an unusual and suitable thing for her interior. Especially nice when this thing is done by yourself. Stained glass painting always fascinated me. It turns out that decorating a vase with your own hands at home is possible. The main thing is to determine the degree of complexity of the work performed and correlate it with your capabilities. If decorating vases is new to you, I advise you to start with simple work. Let's start with a simple technique - applying geometric patterns.
acrylic or stained glass paint for glass surfaces. You can also use spray paint;
brush (use synthetic for acrylic paints, natural - for stained glass);
Scotch;
alcohol;
cotton wool.
Drawing technique:
Degrease the glass surface with alcohol or any degreaser;
We glue the vase with strips of adhesive tape creating them a picture;
We paint over parts without scotch tape, going over it. This is necessary so that the edges of the picture are neat.
We are waiting for the paint to dry. At this time, it is better to remove the vase to avoid accidental touches and smearing of paint. Each paint dries in different ways, read the instructions on the packaging of the paint.
In this technique, you can achieve a wide variety of patterns from parallel lines to various intersections. You can also cut out various geometric shapes and stick them on the surface of the decorated object. Do not apply a thick layer of acrylic and stained glass paint to the surface, as this can cause smudges.
For the first work, I do not advise choosing round shapes, it’s more difficult to work with them. Faceted vases work better. We work with one face, wait for it to dry completely and move on to the next. The easiest will be to work with spray paint. It is applied in a uniform layer, the spray paint dries very quickly. As for stained glass paints, their drying time can be significantly reduced. To do this, just put the painted vase in the oven for 15 minutes at a temperature of 150 degrees.
A competent combination of colors, the use of contrasting colors (white, black, copper, gold) will turn an ordinary object into a real work of art, into a fashionable interior decor. And most importantly, a do-it-yourself thing will carry your energy.
Pique technique
This technique came to us from antiquity. A distinctive feature of the pique painting is the size of the dots, the interval between them, the combination and color scheme.
To paint a vase in this technique you will need:
glass and ceramic contour;
alcohol;
cotton wool.
Drawing technique:
Degrease the glass surface with alcohol.
Draw a contour with a point touch.
If you are a beginner artist, you can sketch your drawing on a piece of paper and attach it from the inside.
You can also use ready-made sketches by downloading your favorite picture from the Internet. Before drawing a contour on a vase, test it on a piece of paper. This is done in order to feel its density. Only then proceed to painting on a vase.
If you are out of line, you can quickly fix the defect before the circuit is dry. Wipe with alcohol and continue to work. Consider the transparency of the vase, place the picture on one side or at different levels.
This is necessary so that the image does not overlap. Try to maintain the same spacing between points.
For dark glass, a white outline is suitable, and for light glass, a black, bronze outline. You can also combine color contours in one job.
Stained glass painting
You can use both a glass vase and decorate a bottle.
You will need:
glass and ceramic contour;
stained glass paints;
alcohol;
cotton wool;
brush.
Drawing technique:
Degrease the glass surface with alcohol.
Insert the sketch from the inside.
Draw closed loops.
We expect the contours to dry out about 2 hours. To speed up the process, use a hairdryer or place a vase in the oven for 10-15 minutes at a temperature of 150 degrees.
Fill the contours.
I used 2 types of fills in my work: Marabu and Decola. They on a different basis and in work, respectively, behave differently. Decola paint was in a water-based tube. And Marabu is alcohol-based in a jar and you need to apply it with a brush. It is more liquid and can be mixed to get different shades. Decola paint cannot be mixed, therefore shades and transitions in one circuit with this material are more difficult to perform. Color transitions can be done by breaking one contour into smaller ones.
Do not leave voids in the contours when painting and make sure that the contours are closed. This is done so that the paint does not leak. For starters, I would advise you to take faceted vases as it is easiest to work with. If you nevertheless got to work with a rounded vase, then try to apply a thin coating to avoid paint leakage.
Decor vases with fabric and ribbons
You will need:
tapes;
lace;
the cloth;
glue.
You can make vases with your own hands. Take a bottle or a wide-necked bottle. We glue the tape around the perimeter of the bottle, cloth. The material could be very different.
You can also knit a pattern on knitting needles or cut from an old knitted sleeve, making a cover on a vase. Instead of ribbons, you can use cords, twine, leather ribbons, twine.
Materials for decorating can be all kinds of. The only limitations may be the size of the bottle and your imagination.
Decor vaz beads
You will need:
glue or glue gun;
beads strung on a thread, or individual beads.
You can replace the beads with more natural materials: cereals, watermelon seeds, coffee grains. You can also use pasta, which can be painted with spray paint.
Decoupage
The word decoupage from French literally translates as “carving”. In other words, the essence of decoupage is to complete the application. In my opinion, this technique is quite simple and does not require special skills.
But be patient and scrupulous in your need. To perform decoupage, you must adhere to the following tips.
You will need:
glass vase (embossed will not work);
alcohol or nail polish remover;
PVA glue;
napkins with a pattern;
scissors;
acrylic paints;
foam sponge;
synthetic bristle brush;
varnish for glass surfaces (for fixing the image).
Technique of the work:
Degrease the surface of the vase with alcohol or nail polish remover.
Primed the surface.Using a sponge, apply acrylic paint. We select the color of the paint a tone lighter than the image. We apply paint in 2-3 layers.
Cut out the ornament from a napkin.
Glue the image to the vase. We apply a dry image on a napkin to the bottle and iron it with a glue brush. We remove all air bubbles from under the napkin.
After drying the wipes, apply varnish to fix the image. Apply 2-3 layers. You can replace the napkin in the photo. It must be soaked in water and remove excess paper (disconnect or roll up). Also in this technique, you can use clippings from a magazine, a printed image. If the paper is too thick, varnish it and soak it in water to remove excess paper.
Vase decoration with natural material
You can decorate the vase with chopsticks, tree branches, cutting them to its height and securing the thread around the circumference.
Sand vase decoration
You will need:
glue;
sand;
brush.
Technique of the work:
Apply glue to the glass vase.
Sprinkle it densely with sand.
You can use eggshells, shells and sea stones, which are attached to the vase with clay. As well as the bark of trees, dried leaves and flowers.
In practice, mixed techniques are used to obtain the best result. For example, combining decoupage framed with twine or woven cord of straw.
Use sea stones, clay and corrugated skin as a decor, creating unusual bas-reliefs. Do not be afraid to experiment with materials and you may find completely unexpected solutions and inspirations.
